 Brian K. Harmon, 62, of Rochester.

Original Release (October 1, 2023)

On October 1, 2023 at 10:56 a.m., deputies at the Monroe County Jail discovered an incarcerated individual unresponsive in a cell and immediately started life-saving measures to include CPR and deployment of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). AMR and Rochester firefighters assumed lifesaving attempts once they arrived at the jail. The incarcerated individual was transported by AMR to Strong Memorial Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him deceased at 11:51 a.m.

On September 22, 2023, the individual, a man in his 60’s, was remanded to the custody of the Monroe County Sheriff for a violation of his parole. Consistent with standard procedure upon entry to the jail, he was screened by the jail’s contract medical provider. The individual was housed in a medical unit.

Per agency protocol, MCSO Criminal Investigations Section and Internal Affairs are conducting investigations. Notifications to the New York State Attorney General’s Office and the New York State Commission of Corrections have been made as required by law. MCSO will fully cooperate with each of these agencies’ reviews.

The identity of the deceased will be released when the family notifications are complete. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to family and friends of the deceased.
