Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a Retail Theft Detail at multiple stores in the Town of Henrietta on November 25 and 26, 2024.

The detail yielded:

  • 34 Arrests
  • 20 Warrants Served
  • 2 Uniform Traffic Tickets
  • 1 Stolen Vehicle Recovered

Among those apprehended was Jonathan Rivera-Lopez, who arrived in a stolen vehicle, committed a larceny, and was subsequently detained. Since August, Rivera-Lopez has engaged in a significant amount of criminal activity.

Excerpt from the August 29, 2024 news release:
Jonathan Rivera-Lopez, age 38, of Rochester is charged with four counts of Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd Degree, and multiple violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail. Rivera also had a warrant out of Livingston County for Unlawful Imprisonment, stemming from an incident in which he fled from Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies in a stolen vehicle with multiple passengers who were unwilling participants and feared for their safety. Rivera was Released Without Bail following his arraignment in Rochester City Court this morning.

Following his release in August, Rivera-Lopez stole a 2023 Dodge Durango and a Honda Passport from the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport. He also stole a Chrysler minivan, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a Chevrolet Silverado from businesses on Scottsville Road.

On October 24, 2024, Rivera-Lopez was found driving a stolen Ford Bronco in the City of Rochester by the Stolen Vehicle Task Force. To avoid arrest, he drove incredibly recklessly, causing deputies to call off the pursuit. Investigators successfully concluded several cases involving Rivera-Lopez and assisted our law enforcement partners in their investigations in multiple jurisdictions.

On November 26, 2024, Jonathan Rivera-Lopez, 38, of Rochester was charged with:

  • Burglary in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Grand Larceny in the Second Degree (Class C-Felony)
  • Grand Larceny in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony) (2 Counts)
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree (Class E-Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • Petit Larceny (Class A-Misdemeanor) (2 Counts)

MCSO Warrant Served from October 24, 2024:

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the Third Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor) 

“The criminal activity and threat to the community committed by Jonathan Rivera-Lopez could have been prevented by clearly written, clean law,” said Sheriff Todd K. Baxter. “We need well-defined dangerousness and repeat offender standards to detain individuals who are a threat to public safety.”

Rivera-Lopez was arraigned in Henrietta Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail where he is being held on $1,000 cash or $3,000 bond.
