Incarcerated Individual Tests Positive for Salmonella in the Monroe County Jail

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has identified one case of salmonella involving an individual incarcerated at the Monroe County Jail.

MCSO deputies and medical personnel worked closely with the Monroe County Department of Public Health to conduct contact tracing, and continue to investigate the source of the illness to determine whether additional individuals have been affected.

Medical staff screened anyone who was potentially exposed and reviewed any complaints of illness from incarcerated individuals dating back to September 1, 2026. Pursuant to our protocols, isolation and quarantine measures have been implemented to help prevent further transmission. Those incarcerated individuals who may have been exposed have been notified, tested and are being monitored by medical personnel. All tests returned at this time are negative. As we investigate this matter, additional sanitary measures have been implemented.

The health and safety of everyone at the Monroe County Jail remains our top priority. An internal message was shared with the entire incarcerated individual population reminding them of best personal hygiene practices.
