Routine Patrol, LPR Technology Lead to Stolen Vehicle Arrest

On June 24th, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy was conducting routine patrol when a License Plate Reader (LPR) alerted to a stolen 2026 Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle was traveling on Scottsville Road, near Paul Road, in the Town of Chili.

After confirming the vehicle had been reported stolen, the deputy initiated a traffic stop. The driver complied and was taken into custody without incident. During the investigation, deputies also determined the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

Demetrie Richardson, 28, of Rochester, is charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree (Unclassified Misdemeanor)

Richardson was processed at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office B-Zone substation and released with an appearance ticket to appear in Chili Town Court at a later date.

This arrest demonstrates how proactive patrols, combined with technologies such as License Plate Readers, continue to enhance public safety. These tools help deputies quickly identify stolen vehicles, hold offenders accountable, and return stolen property to its rightful owners while making our community safer.
