Statement from Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter: MCSO Deputy Deployment as a Task Force Officer for the U.S. Marshals Service

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office answered the call from our federal law-enforcement partners by deploying an MCSO Deputy to assist the U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Park Police in protecting our nation’s monuments during America’s 250th birthday celebration.

There is a long tradition of mutual aid between federal, state and local law enforcement, especially at major nationwide events. This is patriotism, not politics.

This assignment reflects the values of public service, patriotism, and honors the generations who built and defended our great nation. Serving as a Task Force Officer, our deputy is part of a team of law enforcement professionals helping to preserve public safety, protect national landmarks, and ensure visitors can safely commemorate this historic event.

The U.S. Marshals Service provides hundreds of hours of support to our community every year, working alongside local law enforcement to locate violent felony offenders and take dangerous individuals off the streets of Monroe County.

When our partners ask for assistance, we are honored to help at a time when federal resources are dedicated to several major events happening nationwide.

This assignment continues a proud tradition of our deputies supporting public-safety missions, to include: MLB All-Star Game, NCAA Final Four, NBA All-Star Game, several NFL Super Bowls, Democratic and Republican national conventions, as well as presidential inaugurations.

This assignment is reimbursed by the U.S. Marshals Service.
