Two Rochester Residents Arrested in Perinton Stolen Check Investigation

On October 30, 2026, at 4:16 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Lyons National Bank located at 1314 Fairport Road in the Town of Perinton for the report of a forgery in progress. An astute bank employee recognized a woman was trying to cash a stolen check and called 911.

Responding deputies noticed two men waiting inside a red jeep in the parking lot and made contact with them. Shortly afterward, a woman exited the bank and approached the vehicle. Deputies identified her as Tanya Sanchez and determined she was the individual who attempted to cash the stolen check.

During the investigation, the male passenger inside the Jeep repeatedly provided false information to deputies about who he was. Deputies ultimately identified him as Christian Falu-Montes.

With assistance from the MCSO Economic Crimes Unit, deputies completed their investigation and arrested Falu-Montes and Sanchez. Deputies determined the driver of the Jeep had no knowledge of the stolen check, and was released without charges.

Christian E. Falu-Montes, 31, of Rochester is charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Conspiracy in the Fifth Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • Petit Larceny (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • False Personation (Class B-Misdemeanor)

Mr. Falu-Montes was transported to the Monroe County Jail, arraigned in CAP Court, and released under the supervision of pre-trial services.

Tanya J. Sanchez, 50, of Rochester is charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Conspiracy in the Fifth Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • Petit Larceny (Class A-Misdemeanor)

Ms. Sanchez was arraigned in CAP Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail where she is being held without bail due to her predicate felon status.
