Deputy Involved Shooting: Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Henrietta
Restaurant Patrons, Staff, Deputies and Suspect Uninjured; A Credit to Deputies’ Training and Professionalism
Henrietta, NY (June 6, 2022) - On June 2, 2022 at approximately 7:40 p.m., MCSO deputies responded to Carrabba’s Italian Grill, located at 3340 West Henrietta Rd., Henrietta, for the report a male behind the bar with a gun. The deputies entered a perilous environment without hesitation and attempted to verbally deescalate a volatile individual. While working to escort patrons out of the restaurant, the suspect pointed an illegal handgun at deputies. An exchange of gunfire ensued between the suspect and the deputies, narrowly missing the head of one deputy. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The deputies who discharged their weapons are:
- Deputy Nicholas Cooper; 1.5 years of service
- Deputy Mary Wegman; 6 years of service
The suspect, Alonzo L. Jones, 33, of Rochester faces the following charges:
- Attempted Aggravated Assault Upon a Police Officer (C-Felony)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree; Two (2) -Counts (C-Felony)
The investigation is ongoing. MCSO is working with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office to determine if additional charges will be lodged.
Mr. Jones was arraigned in Henrietta Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail.
“To say I am proud of our deputies and all who responded to this incident is an understatement,” said Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter. “These deputies placed themselves in harm’s way without hesitation to protect members of our community. The deputies who responded to this chaotic scene are heroes and our community is fortunate for their service.”
