Perinton, NY (December 16, 2022) - The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a pair of juveniles Friday afternoon in relation to the arson and graffiti incidents in the Town of Perinton. Following a thorough investigation and cooperation from our community, investigators were able to locate and arrest those responsible for the intolerable acts.
On Friday, November 25 at 2:07 a.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies were made aware of racist graffiti on multiple surfaces in a Perinton neighborhood. The following night, deputies were notified of additional racist graffiti on a church sign. They also responded to a nearby home damaged by fire which was later ruled an arson. That morning, Sheriff Baxter said we would not stop until those responsible were apprehended. Investigators were persistent, checked every lead, and determined these were random criminal acts committed by 14 and 12 year old suspects. Thank you to those in our community who did not tolerate these despicable acts and came forward with information.
This afternoon, the juveniles, accompanied by their parents, turned themselves in to MCSO.
The juveniles are charged with:
- Arson in the Second Degree (Class B Felony)
- Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (Class D Felony – 2 Counts)
- Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree (Class D Felony)
- Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (Class E Felony)
- Making Graffiti (Class A Misdemeanor – 2 Counts)
The two were issued juvenile appearance tickets returnable to Youth Part Court and Family Court. They were released to their parents.
