On August 13, 2024, at 9:35 a.m. Monroe County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the Speedway gas station on Chili Avenue in the Town of Chili to provide support during the firing of an employee. Information was gathered that the individual is known to carry a pistol illegally. The employee, Jovon Williams, arrived in a car driven by Valerie Webb. Upon discovering the vehicle registration was suspended, deputies instructed Williams to exit the vehicle. Williams eventually complied with deputies' commands to exit the vehicle. Based on the intelligence suggesting he has a firearm, he was told not to try to retrieve his belongings from the car. Williams did not obey these commands and proceeded towards the rear entrance of the vehicle, causing deputies to use physical force to take him into custody. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a loaded .32 Special Revolver, and multiple vials containing suspected narcotics. Neither Williams nor Webb have a pistol permit in New York State.

Jovon A. Williams, 35, of Rochester is charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C-Felony)
  • Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • Resisting Arrest (Class A-Misdemeanor)

Valerie L. Webb, 37, of Sweden is charged with:

  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration (Class U-Misdemeanor)
  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle without Insurance (Infraction)

Williams was arraigned in Chili Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. Webb was issued an appearance ticket and released.
