On October 11, 2024, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Ontario Street in the Village of Honeoye Falls for a check the welfare report for 62-year-old Penny Busch. Penny could not be located. Based on the preliminary investigation, the deputies believed her disappearance was suspicious and involved the MCSO Criminal Investigations Section. An active search and investigation continued through the weekend using deputies, the Drone Team, K-9 units, and our Fire Department partners to conduct a grid-search of Ms. Busch’s eight-acre property. Despite an extensive search, Ms. Busch was not located. Investigators continued their efforts to locate the missing woman over the next few days.

On October 14th, investigators developed information focusing the search to an area of the Genesee River in the Town of Rush. The body of a deceased woman was located and recovered from the Genesee River. The Monroe County Medical Examiner started their investigation to positively identify the deceased. At the same time, investigators diligently continued to pursue leads in order to uncover the circumstances of Penny Busch’s disappearance.

On October 18th, the deceased was positively identified as Penny Busch. Investigators established significant evidence and probable cause to arrest her sister, Jamie Busch, for the murder of Penny Busch.

“I would like to thank the sharp deputies who determined this was more than just a check the welfare with an adult not home,” said Sheriff Todd K. Baxter. “The investigators’ determination to find leads, locate the deceased in the river, and apprehend her sister for the murder is remarkable.”

Jamie J. Busch, 53, of Honeoye Falls, is charged with:

  • Murder in the Second Degree (Class A-1-Felony)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (Class E-Felony)(2 Counts)

Jaime Busch was arraigned in the Mendon Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail.

We appreciate the assistance of the Monroe County Fire Bureau Special Operations Unit, the Henrietta Fire Department, the Village of Honeoye Falls, and the New York State Police K9 Unit

We would also like to acknowledge the MCSO Crime Victim’s Specialists, who have been working with the family during this difficult time.
