On January 22, 2025, at 4:36 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Creek Street in the Town of Penfield for a suspicious condition. A concerned citizen saw two males park a pickup truck in a driveway before walking away from the area. Upon arrival, deputies verified the truck had been reported stolen from Lee County, Florida. The neighborhood was quickly surrounded by deputies who set up a perimeter and requested additional support from the MCSO Drone and K9 units. Deputies quickly located the two males walking on Daytona Avenue. When the two suspects saw the deputies, they attempted to flee and were subsequently arrested following a brief foot chase.
Deputies discovered a loaded 9mm handgun inside the stolen pickup truck. The suspects are identified as 17-year-old juveniles from Florida who drove the stolen pickup truck to New York.
The 17-year-old juveniles are charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C-Felony)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
- Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
- Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree (Class E-Felony)
The juveniles were arraigned in Monroe County Family Court and remanded to the Monroe County Children’s Detention Center on $25,000 cash bail, or $50,000 bond.
Deputies once again demonstrated their commitment to community safety by putting themselves in harm's way and utilizing effective police work to bring an end to the crime spree spanning multiple states.
