On the evening of June 4, 2025, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies were patrolling Ontario Beach Park. At about 9:00 p.m., following a series of disturbance calls, deputies worked to disperse a large group of disruptive young people congregated near the pavilions. An individual separated from the group and was seen running while carrying a handgun. Deputies apprehended the suspect after a brief pursuit on foot and recovered a loaded 9mm pistol with a 30-round magazine. During the arrest, a deputy sustained a hand injury, necessitating a medical evaluation at a local hospital.
Deandre J. Leonard, 19, of Rochester is charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C-Felony)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
Leonard was transported to the Monroe County Jail to await arraignment in CAP Court.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Special Services Group, in conjunction with deputies from multiple zones and the Rochester Police Department, demonstrated exceptional teamwork, effectively managing a large crowd and seizing an illegal firearm.
