Update: 8/6/25
Following the release of Oleksandr Levytskyy we share the community’s concerns. MCSO continues to work with our partners: members of the Rochester Police Department, the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and mental health experts.
To enhance safety in designated areas, we will continue various security measures, such as video surveillance, UTV patrols, bike patrols, and mounted units.
We have been in contact with the Canal Authority to seek their assistance.
We have investigators assigned exclusively who are tasked with reviewing all potential violations of the law; past and present.
We have been in contact with police departments asking for zero tolerance of any violations of the law.
In the near term, we will observe his activities while in public.
We are working with our partners to connect Mr. Levytskyy with long-term solutions and appropriate resources in an effort to mitigate future negative activity.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office encourages those who may have information about any crime or suspicious activity that has occurred to call 911.

On July 10, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the canal path near Great Embankment Park (631 Marsh Rd., Pittsford) for the report of a male following and harassing an individual. Following a thorough search of the area, deputies located Oleksandr Levytskyy, verified he was the individual who had been harassing the victim, and arrested him.
Oleksandr Levytskyy, 29, of Irondequoit is charged with:
- Harassment in the First Degree (Class B-Misdemeanor)
Levytskyy was arraigned in CAP Court and released.
We believe there may be additional victims and encourage those with information regarding any criminal activity to call 911.
As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of our community, deputies are conducting additional high-visibility patrols along the canal path. An investigator is assigned to oversee the case, and we continue to work with all our partners in search of long-term solutions.
