On August 7, 2025, at 7:38 a.m., while conducting security rounds, deputies at the Monroe County Jail discovered an unresponsive incarcerated individual in a cell and immediately initiated life-saving measures, including CPR and deployment of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Jail and medical staff continued performing lifesaving measures until the American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance and the Rochester Fire Department arrived and continued lifesaving measures. The incarcerated individual was transported via AMR to Strong Memorial Hospital, where medical staff pronounced the 35-year-old woman deceased at 8:46 a.m. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
The 35-year-old woman was remanded to the custody of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on August 5, 2025, at 2:24 a.m., for outstanding warrants.
Per agency protocol, the MCSO Criminal Investigations Section and Internal Affairs are conducting parallel investigations. Notifications to the New York State Attorney General’s Office and the New York State Commission of Corrections have been made as required by law. MCSO will fully cooperate with each of these agencies’ reviews.
Early investigation indicates this was a medical issue, pending the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office findings. The identity of the deceased will be released when family notifications are complete.
