The name of the man killed on January 31, 2026 at the Extended Stay America Hotel in Henrietta is Daniel L. Fiero, 40, of Penn Yan.

Original Release (01/31/26):

On January 31, 2026 at 2:52 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Extended Stay America Hotel on Commons Way in Henrietta for the report of a dispute occurring inside one of the rooms. 

When deputies arrived, they found Richard T. Leo in the room with blood on him. Leo was detained and as deputies continued into the room, they located one person deceased from stab wounds. 

With Leo in police custody, deputies worked to confirm this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to public safety. 

MCSO investigators and technicians responded to collect evidence and work with deputies at the scene to determine the events that transpired prior to the 911 call. 

Meanwhile, deputies transported Leo to the MCSO B-Zone Substation where he was interviewed by investigators. Following the interview,

Richard T. Leo, 36, Rochester, is charged with: 

  • Murder in the Second Degree (Class A-I Felony)

 Deputies transported Leo to Monroe County CAP court where he is awaiting arraignment.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time.
