On September 19, 2024, at 1:36 p.m., a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy was southbound on Route 390, passing the off ramp to Scottsville Road in the Town of Chili and spotted a disabled vehicle. The 2008 Nissan Altima with Florida license plates was blocking the right lane of traffic. When Deputy Hayes stopped to assess the driver, who was sleeping behind the wheel, he noticed a gun lodged between the driver's leg and the center console. The driver is identified as Terry Britt and the pistol is a loaded Ruger LCP with 6 rounds in the magazine. Further investigation revealed the pistol was reported stolen.

Terry T. Britt, 41, of Rochester is charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C-Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property (Class E-Felony)

Britt was arraigned in Chili Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail with a $15,000 cash bail, or $30,000 bond.

Great police work by Deputy Hayes, to be observant during what started as a dangerous condition on the highway and led to the recovery of an illegal firearm.
