On January 24, 2025, at approximately 4:08 a.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Kinglet Drive neighborhood in the Town of Henrietta for the report of a larceny. A resident informed deputies an unknown man in a pickup truck stole property from his vehicle. Deputies reviewed security footage and broadcast a description of the suspect and the truck. A deputy located a vehicle matching the description driving on E. River Road. The suspect vehicle was identified as a gray 2014 Ford F-150 with Georgia license plates, reported stolen in Skaneateles. A deputy's attempt to stop the truck was unsuccessful, as the driver refused to pull over and accelerated rapidly, continuing on into the City of Rochester. The vehicle was brought to a safe stop on Lyell Avenue and Murray Street through the strategic deployment of stop sticks by the deputies. The suspect, having fled the vehicle, was subsequently apprehended after a brief foot chase. William Dougherty, the suspect, is wanted on four outstanding warrants from Monroe County Court, the Gates, Greece, and Rochester Police Departments.
William S. Dougherty, 30, of Avon is charged with:
- Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
- Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
- Larceny (Class A-Misdemeanor)
Dougherty is awaiting arraignment on the above charges. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail to answer the Monroe County Court warrant for five counts of Grand Larceny.
We appreciate our partners with the Rochester Police Department for their valuable assistance during this investigation. The deputies exhibited exemplary coordination in apprehending the wanted larcenist, with no reported injuries to anyone, including the suspect.
