At 2:35 a.m. on August 4, 2024, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Route 490 and Buffalo Road in the Town of Gates for the report of a person shot and a disabled vehicle. Around the same time, there was an additional call received for a female at a local hospital who had sustained a gunshot wound that was deemed to be non-life threatening. Deputies, along with officers from the Rochester Police Department, Ogden Police, and Gates Police, responded to Route 490 near Buffalo Road. Upon their arrival, they found evidence suggesting the presence of an injured individual and a vehicle, although neither was located at the scene. Not long after, Gates PD was called to a location near Route 490 for the report of an abandoned vehicle with bullet holes and blood on the outside. The vehicle was registered to the gunshot wound victim.

Following an extensive investigation based upon evidence located at multiple locations and investigative leads developed by the Monroe Crime Analysis Center, it was determined the shooting likely occurred in the City of Rochester. At that point, the investigation was turned over to the Rochester Police Department.

This investigation showcases the fact that criminals operate without regard for jurisdictional boundaries. When it comes to the safety and security of our community, so does law enforcement.
