///

On August 31, 2024, at 7:56 a.m., Monroe County Jail deputies discovered an incarcerated individual unresponsive in a cell. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures, to include CPR, the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and as a precautionary measure, administered several doses of Narcan in an attempt to revive the individual. Jail security and medical staff continued performing lifesaving measures until AMR ambulance arrived. Despite life saving measures, the 35 year-old man was pronounced deceased. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this difficult time.

Per protocol, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will immediately begin two separate and independent investigations to be conducted by the Criminal Investigation Section and the Internal Affairs Section. Pursuant to policy and applicable laws, the New York State Attorney’s General Office and New York State Commission of Correction were notified of the death and will conduct their own independent investigations. MCSO will fully cooperate with each of those agencies’ investigations.

The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine a cause of death. The identity of the deceased will be released when family notifications are complete.
